Riwāyah of Warsh ʿan Nāfiʿ
Transmitted by Rāwī Abū Saʿīd ʿUthmān ibn Saʿīd al-Miṣrī (nicknamed Warsh for his fair complexion and melodious voice) (d. 197 AH)
The esteemed Egyptian narrator who traveled to Madinah to complete several full recitations before Imam Nāfiʿ. Nāfiʿ took great joy in his voice and nicknamed him Warsh. It is the primary recitational tradition across North and West Africa.

Recitation Rules & Characteristics (الأصول)
- Naql: Transferring the vowel of a Hamzah to the preceding quiescent consonant, eliminating the Hamzah (e.g. 'Man Aamana' becomes 'Man-aamana')
- Taqlīl (Bayna-bayn): Pronouncing the alif midway between Fathah and Imālah before certain endings (e.g. 'al-Hudā', 'al-Dunyā')
- Madd Badal: Permissible lengths of 2, 4, or 6 counts (Qasr, Tawassut, Tul)
- Madd Munfaṣil & Muttaṣil: Full 6 counts (Tūl) standard in Tariq al-Azraq
- Tarqīq of Rā’: Softening the letter Rā’ with Fathah or Dammah when preceded by an original Yā’ Sākinah or Kasrah Lāzimah
- Taghlīẓ of Lām: Heavy pronunciation of Lām with Fathah when preceded by Ṣād, Ḍād, or Ṭā’ (e.g. 'Al-Salāt', 'Zalama')
