Qirā’ah of ʿĀṣim al-Kūfī
Imam Abū Bakr ʿĀṣim ibn Bahdalah Abī al-Najūd al-Asadī al-Kūfī (d. 127 AH / Kufa, Iraq)
The distinguished Imam of Kufa whose recitation spread to become the most globally widespread today through the Riwāyah of Ḥafṣ. He received recitation from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamī (who recited to ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, ʿUthmān, and Zayd) and Zirr ibn Ḥubaysh (who recited to Ibn Masʿūd).

Principal Narrators (Ruwāt)
Shuʿbah ʿan ʿĀṣim
The primary peer narrator of Ḥafṣ from Imam ʿĀṣim. While Ḥafṣ transmitted the recitation ʿĀṣim learned from ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib via Al-Sulamī, Shuʿbah transmitted the recitation ʿĀṣim learned from ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd via Zirr ibn Ḥubaysh.
Ḥafṣ ʿan ʿĀṣim
The narration transmitted by Ḥafṣ from his step-father and teacher Imam ʿĀṣim. ʿĀṣim confirmed that he taught Ḥafṣ the exact recitation he received from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamī, who learned from ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, ʿUthmān, and Zayd ibn Thābit.
